Jersey figure skater turned Pittsburgh runner…how does that happen? A move, a boy, and a pursuit to find and then preserve my sanity! After attending and then graduating from Pitt in 2010 with a degree in Liberal Studies and a certificate in Children’s Literature, I met my now husband, who thought it was fun to drag me out on runs on the weekends that he was home from the army (it wasn’t…at first). Fast forward 3.5 years, and I think it’s fun to make him drive me to all my races at the crack of dawn (I’m a morning person and love to sing in the car…who wouldn’t love a road trip with me?)…but that’s really a story for another day. Running makes me whole (as does chocolate, wine, burgers and French fries, time with my family and friends, reading, bourbon, froyo, and chasing around the various kiddos I watch when I’m not running or at the store….but running most of all). Whether I’m running 3.1 miles or 26.2, I know that nine times out of ten I’ll be in a better place when I’m done than when I started. It shows me how strong and determined I am and that I can do so much more than I ever thought possible…and nothing makes me happier than sharing and encouraging that in other people.
